(Autorenreferat)... view less

"A critical attitude towards nuclear power prevails in Austria and yet, energy from nuclear sources is being imported and consumed. Given this issue, what are the possibilities to make Austrian citizens use different sources of information and influence their stance regarding atomic power? What connections can be established between the use of media, existing knowledge and the basic knowledge in regards to nuclear energy? Empirical results of a public opinion poll shall be presented as a result to these questions: For the time being, the press and broadcast media still dominate as the primary source of information. Among socio-demographic factors, age, gender and the level of education seem to be influential. Knowledge about nuclear power among the Austrian population is modest. However, the better-informed citizens tend to lean towards a nuclear-critical position." (author's abstract)... view less
