Abstract Die Aktualität qualitativer Forschung und des Ansatzes der sozialen Repräsentationen wird im ersten Teil begründet. Einige Kennzeichen qualitativer Forschung werden diskutiert. Ausgewählte Studien, die soziale Repräsentationen mit qualitativen Methoden analysieren, werden kurz zusammengefaßt und im Lichte dieser Kennzeichen betrachtet. Im zweiten Teil wird das Konzept der retrospektiven Verankerung und die Verwendung von Erzählungen als empirischer Zugang zu sozialen Repräsentationen vorgeschlagen. Abschließend wird das episodische Interview als konkrete Umsetzung dieses Zugangs an einem Anwendungsbeispiel vorgestellt.

The relevance of qualitative research and of studying social representations is discussed in the first parts. Common features in the variety of qualitative research are discussed. Some studies which analysed social representations by employing qualitative methods are briefly summarised and referred to these criteria. In the second part of the paper, the concept of retrospective anchoring and the use of narratives as approach to social representations are suggested. Finally, the episodic interview as way to bring this approach into terms and a short example of its application are presented.
