(Autorenreferat)... view less

"We examine by which processes romantic partners develop a shared social network in young adulthood and which subjective strategies they pursue in dealing with individual and shared network partners. We apply a mixed-methods approach with a qualitative core and conduct eleven multiple- component interviews with young adults. We find two distinct qualitative phenomena that explain that a shared partnership network is continuously and intentionally integrated in parallel with individual and personal spaces being regulated within the relationship. Both processes subjectively unfold against the background of the individual fit of subjective conceptions on partnership and friendships. By an integration of psychometric scales that measure core personality (Big Five), partnership satisfaction and commitment we show that young people put stress on differential aspects of these processes depending on these quantitative features. We conclude with a discussion of the consequences of the findings for the understanding of romantic relationships in young adulthood and for mixing methods in psychology."
