The aim of this paper is to compare the disciplinary field of language policies with public policies. Language policies as a field of study emerge from special historical conditions together with sociolinguistics which is a sector of the discipline. The studies in language policies bear traces of this relationship. We intend to show in this article some characteristics and black boxes of the analyses in language policies, due to this sociolinguistic setting. We propose to put into perspective these analyses with the analytical orientations of public policies and the evolution of these towards the sociology of public action, from a small corpus of citations. This confrontation advocates a more multidisciplinary conception of research in language policies and, by this possible enrichment, a partial renovation of the field.... view less
