The text aims to show the rap as a performance that transmits the discourse of a periphery that claims by freedom and social justice through artistic language. Expressive elements are observed in three examples that are part of national rap, influenced by hip hop culture. Based on the theoretical assumptions of Dayrell; Schechner; Zumthor; Carlson; the literature reviewed comes to meet of reflections that indicate the importance of this musical style that implies practices and representations in the historical-cultural context. Under the perspective of music making, we can check the relationship between language, gestures and art. Este texto pretende mostrar o rap como uma performance que transmite o discurso de uma periferia que clama por liberdade e justiça social por meio da linguagem artística. Elementos expressivos são observados em três exemplos que fazem parte do rap nacional, influenciado pela cultura hip hop. Com base nos pressupostos teóricos de Dayrell, Schechner, Zumthor e Carlson, a literatura revisada vem ao encontro de reflexões que apontam a importância desse estilo musical que implica práticas e representações no contexto histórico-cultural. Sob a perspectiva do fazer musical, podemos verificar a relação entre linguagem, gestualidade e arte.
