However, it has been competing up to the present day with the older 'family' morality, which in turn can be traced back to Aristotle's concept of the 'oikos'. The laying off of Kathryn McNeil serves to exemplify this conflict of moralities. From an historical perspective, we might well live in a period of transition, in which the economy manages to reconcile the morality of the market with that of the family."
