"This contribution aims to provide insights into recent experimental results on the perception of justice. We start by reporting findings from studies dealing with humans who decide on just allocations behind a 'veil of ignorance' - one of the most influential concepts in the theory of justice. Following this, experimental findings regarding three important principles of justice are discussed: the efficiency principle, the entitlement principle, and the need principle. We comment on suggestions as to how the observed social preferences might be incorporated into economic theory. The paper concludes with an outlook over future experimental work on justice in bargaining and procedural justice." (author's abstract)... view less
