Das Yadana-Pipelineprojekt - Umsetzung unternehmensethischer Überlegungen in der Praxis?

"In Zeiten der Globalisierung und damit einhergehendem grenzenlosen Wettbewerb nehmen Anzahl und Einfluss weltweit tätiger Unternehmen beständig zu. Dabei wird die Forderung immer lauter, dass sie als Good Corporate Citizens sich für das Wohl ihrer Gastlandsgesellschaften auch jenseits des Kerngeschäfts einsetzen sollten. Das Yadana-Pipelineprojekt von Total/ FinaElf und Unocal in Myanmar wird diesbezüglich von den Unternehmen als Musterbeispiel in einem Entwicklungsland dargestellt. Eine Fülle von kritischen Stimmen zum Projekt legt jedoch eine anderweitige Schlussfolgerung nahe." (Autorenreferat)

"Nowadays, in times of globalization worldwide competition and the number and influence of transnational corporations are significantly increasing. Therefore, it is argued that by being good corporate citizens they should enhance the well-being of their holt society beyond their core business. The Yadana-Pipeline-Project of Total/ FinaElf and Unocal in Myanmar is adverted by them as a model of corporate responsibility in a developing country. Nevertheless, researchers and NGOs criticize certain issues of this project. This article explores wether positive statements by the corporations illuminate the reality of corporate behavior in Myanmar with benefits for the host society or are just public relations in order to justify a profitable investment in a repressive environment.
