(Autorenreferat)... view less

"This article applies a discourse analysis of an online platform about bioethics. It uses methods of quantitative research and qualitative categorization in order to examine the following questions: How does everyday knowledge, which is being communicated on the Internet, construct the discursive objects of 'normality' and 'disability'? How are the lines drawn? The article presents these findings: First, 'we normals' proves to be the dominant mode of statement. Second, 'disability' appears as a stereotype, and 'normality' constitutes itself as an empty (meaningless) term. Third, 'the disabled child' and 'the disabled' define the key discursive terms. Fourth, the analysis distinguishes the following two discursive strategies: one position uses the approach of dichotomization for differentiating between normality and disability; the other position pleads for a flexibilization of boundaries. Ultimately, the analysis highlights trajectories and transformations of the contemporary disability discourses." (author's abstract)... view less
