"In 2007, the voting age in Austria was lowered from 18 to 16 years of age. For the first time, adolescents, above the age of 16, were allowed to vote in the early parliamentary elections of 2008. This new situation served as a starting point for a post-election survey of political attitudes, voting behavior and the democratic understanding of the 16 to 18 year olds. The article summarizes some of the main findings. It draws the conclusion that adolescents are a politically heterogeneous group, expressing different attitudes. The status as a school pupil or an employee represents a particularly important factor." (author's abstract)... view less
