| Abstract | "Konstruktionen des Fremden bedienen sich einer großen Bandbreite an sprachlichen Mustern. Der Diskurshistorische Ansatz der Kritischen Diskursanalyse verbindet die Analyse sprachlicher Äußerungen mit einer systematischen Kontextanalyse. Mit diesem Ansatz analysieren die Autorinnen Beispiele aus rezenten Wahlkämpfen - zur Grazer Gemeinderatswahl 2008 und zur österreichischen Europaparlamentswahl 2009. Dabei richten sie ihr Augenmerk sowohl auf verbal-sprachliche Mittel als auch auf Formen der visuellen Kommunikation, die Text und Bild kombinieren. Die Analyse der offenen und versteckten Konstruktionen von ausgrenzenden Aussagen zeigt die Präsenz fremdenfeindlicher Rhetorik nicht nur am rechten Rand des politischen Spektrums, sondern auch in der politischen Mitte auf." (Autorenreferat) "A wide variety of linguistic means is being used to construe the alien or foreign 'other'. The Discourse-Historical Approach of Critical Discourse Analysis combines the in-depth analysis of linguistic utterances with a systematic analysis of their context. The authors apply this approach for the study of examples from recent election campaigns - the Graz municipal election 2008 and the Austrian EU election 2009. In this article they focus on linguistic as well as visual forms of communication, which combine text and images. The analysis of open and implicit constructions of excluding (segregating) statements documents the presence of xenophobic rhetoric not only on the right margins of the political spectrum, but also in the political centre."
