Abstract	"Seit den Wahlsiegen Tony Blairs 1997 und 2001 blickt die gesamte europäische Sozialdemokratie auf 'New Labour' und versucht, vom britischen Beispiel zu profitieren. Dies gilt nicht zuletzt für die Kriminalpolitik - für die Blair die Devise 'tough on crime, tough on the causes of crime' ausgegeben hatte. Eine Devise, die im Wahlkampf der SPD 1998 zum Slogan 'entschlossen gegen Kriminalität, entschlossen gegen ihre Ursachen' (Kant/ Pütter 1998, S. 62) wurde. Ein genauerer Blick auf das Verhältnis von Anspruch und Wirklichkeit belegt das Scheitern dieser zwischen Versicherungslogik und neuer Punitivität oszillierenden Politik." (Autorenreferat) "The article describes and analyses New Labour's criminal policy in terms of both programme and results, and ends with a word of caution concerning any attempt by continental parties and/ or social democratic governments to imitate what they seem to see as the 'British Model'. Oscillating between actuarial justice and a new punitiveness it widens the gap between anti-exclusionary visions and manifestly exclusionary outcomes." (author's abstract)
