'Crises are social constructs whose perception as problematic and/ or threatening is by no means automatically based on real and objective facts. Particularly in mass-media reporting the presentation of crises plays an important role to attract public attention. Using the example of the alarming situation concerning the health and sports-motor performance capacity of children and youths, such crises constructs are illustrated as far their medial interconnections on the one hand and their legitimizing function for science on the other hand is concerned. It becomes obvious that the lack of specificity of (sports-)scientific constructs such as health and sportsmotor performance capacity opens up a lot of links concerning both aspects of mass-media exploitation aspects and problematic scientific interpretations.'
