Abstract	'Texte bilden Wirklichkeit nicht ab, sondern konstruieren sie. Auf der Basis dieser Einsicht werden literarische Darstellungen als spezifische Wirklichkeitskonstruktionen aufgefasst, die über eigene, im wissenschaftlichen Diskursuniversum vernachlässigte, ästhetische Erkenntnispotentiale verfügen. Diese Textformen können im Rahmen qualitativer Sozialforschung für das Verständnis der schweigsamen Dimensionen des Sozialen produktiv gemacht werden. Der Beitrag nähert sich den Erkenntnispotentialen von Literatur sowohl über eine historische Rekonstruktion des schwierigen Verhältnisses von Literatur und Sozialwissenschaften als auch über beispielhaft illustrierte, theoretische Überlegungen zur Wirkung literarischer Repräsentationen auf die Körperlichkeit und Sinnlichkeit der Leser.' Based on this understanding, literary representations are seen as specific constructions of reality containing a characteristic potential of aesthetic knowledge which the world of scientific discourse tends to neglect. Qualitative social research may make productive use of this kind of text to enhance its understanding of the silent dimensions of the social sphere. The potential of knowledge inherent to literature is approached by a historical reconstruction of the difficult relations between literature and the social sciences as well as by a case-based theoretical discussion of the effects of literary representations on readers corporeality and sensuality.'
