'The contribution analyzes internet addiction as a current social problem which made its career in many industrial states beginning with the mid-nineties. In the context of the cocoon model of social problems, the following topics are examined empirically: the social conditions and the history of the problem, the problem patterns, the collective actors and their discourse strategies, alternative interpretations and counter discourses as well as the role of different publics. The career of the problem perception - quite typical in the first view - reveals two peculiarities that make the problem interesting for theorizing models of problems: The active role of the affected persons and the outstanding role of network media during the dissemination of the problem perception. An analysis of these interrelated and quite peculiar aspects demonstrates that the perception of internet addiction as a problem owes its successful career predominantly to those social practices that themselves are topic of the critique.'
