'Proceeding from Wilson's concept of 'Underclass' and from discussions about processes of exclusion, the author analyses the conditions and indicators in poverty research measuring processes of exclusion. The most important results of survey research in Germany will be scrutinised with regard to economic, cultural, and social deprivation and spatial segregation. The author concludes that we can find individual processes of exclusion, but no 'underclass' with clear tendencies of social isolation in Germany as yet.' (author's abstract)|... view less
