Abstract 'Dem hohen Stellenwert der Drogenmortalität als Indikator für das Drogenproblem und die Drogenpolitik steht ein nur begrenzt empirisches und theoretisches Wissen über die genauen Umstände und Zusammenhänge des Drogentodes gegenüber. In diesem Artikel werden die wesentlichen Ergebnisse der empirischen Studien in Deutschland zusammengefaßt und vor dem Hintergrund der Fragestellung nach dem Zusammenhang von Drogenmortalität und Drogenpolitik diskutiert.' 'Although there is a high significance of drug related mortality as an indicator of drug problems and of drug policy, only little empirical and theoretical research on the circumstances and relations of drug related death's has been done. In this article the essential findings of empirical research in Germany will be summarised and discussed with special emphasis on the relations between drug related deaths and drug policy.'
