'This article addresses questions that are widely neglected by neutralization research: in how far do justifications for certain offences differ toward oneself and in different settings (friends and parents), as well as for certain offences? The quantitative study analyses on the justifications of juveniles from disadvantaged neighbourhoods that are often involved in street crime. Several consistencies and inconsistencies can be observed concerning the use of justifications toward the different settings. Those do not only indicate a partly acceptance of violent offences by the parents in this milieu but also the shame of the individual for other offences.' (author's abstract)|... view less
