Einführung in die Demographie am PC

Abstract

'In diesem einführenden Übungsskript sollen die wichtigsten Maße der formalen Demographie in den Bereichen der Alters- und Geschlechtsstrukturen von Bevölkerungen sowie der Fertilität und Mortalität behandelt werden. Am Beispiel von Fertilitätsstrukturen wird der Unterschied zwischen Perioden- und Kohortenbetrachtung verdeutlicht. Ebenso wird die Problematik von Bevölkerungsvorausschätzungen eingehend behandelt und anhand von Projektionen die grundlegenden Zusammenhänge der Bevölkerungsdynamik vermittelt. Darüber hinaus wird auf die Datenlage in der Dritten Welt eingegangen und es werden Strategien vorgestellt, wie diese zu bewältigen ist. Praktische Übungen am PC sollen den Anwender in die Lage versetzen, den Umgang mit demographischen Maßen und Methoden zu lernen sowie helfen, deren Möglichkeiten und Grenzen kennenzulernen. Mit Ausnahme der Projektionen werden die Berechnungen mit dem Tabellenkalkulationsprogramm Excel durchgeführt. Dieses Skript soll dazu Hilfestellungen geben.' (Autorenreferat)

'This introductory exercise book deals with the most important measurements of formal demography in the fields of populations' age and sex structures as well as fertility and mortality. Fertility structures are taken as example in order to explain the difference between the examination of periods and the one of cohorts. The problematic nature of population prediction is treated in-depth and the fundamental principles of population dynamics are imparted by means of projections. Furthermore, the book describes the situation of data collection in the Third World and presents strategies on how to manage it. Practical exercises at the PC aim at enabling the user to learn working with demographic measurements and methods as well as at helping him to get to know their possibilitis and limits. Except for the projections, the calculations are carried out with the table calculation program Excel. The book is intended to provide aid for using this program.' (author's abstract)|
