Abstract	'Die Kommission zur Verbesserung der informationellen Infrastruktur zwischen Wissenschaft und Statistik geht auf ein Thesenpapier zurück, das im Sommer 1999 im Rahmen einer Konferenz im Statistischen Bundesamt verfasst wurde und in dem empfohlen wird, eine Kommission einzurichten, die 'Lösungsvorschläge zu den inhaltlichen, organisatorischen und ressourcenbezogenen Fragen der Zusammenarbeit zwischen Wissenschaft und Statistik erarbeitet' (Statistisches Bundesamt 1999: 237). Die Bundesministerin für Bildung und Forschung hat im Herbst 1999 die Kommission berufen. Diese hat im Frühjahr 2001 ihr Gutachten übergeben (Kommission 2001). In diesem kurzen Beitrag will ich mit zwei Vorbemerkungen beginnen, nachher kurz auf die Arbeiten der Kommission und ihre Empfehlungen eingehen und dann mit einigen Gedanken zu möglichen Folgerungen für die Methodenausbildung schließen.' (Autorenreferat) 'In autumn 1999 the German Federal Minister for Education and Research set up a 'Commission to improve the informational infrastructure between official statistics and the scientific community'. The commission was asked to develop proposals to strengthen systematically the co-operation between these two bodies and to make recommendations on how to deal with the substantive and organisational issues involved and the resources needed to achieve these goals. The Commission published its findings this spring in a report entitled 'Ways to an improved informational infrastructure'. The monograph is accompanied by a CD containing the full text of the Commission's recommendations, an English summary of the main points of the report, and expert appraisals commissioned in the course of the work. This article briefly describes the work, findings and recommendations of the Commission, then considers possible consequences for the teaching of empirical social research methods. A number of concrete suggestions are made on how to improve methods instruction in the empirical social sciences and for official statistics.' (author's abstract)\|
