(Autorenreferat)'This paper focuses on the role of life-stage orientations for self-regulation and actions of adolescents. Biographical orientations are evaluative conceptions of one's own biographical status and are subdivided into the orientation towards the future as adult and the orientation towards the presence of being an adolescent. Based on a model of self-regulation it is assumed that the ability to pursue long-term goals and to follow immediate impulses is linked to these biographical orientations. If and how adolescents try to realize actions which are apt to lead into adulthood (e.g. learning in school) or to enjoy the benefits of youth (e.g. meeting friends) depends on their cognitions about how to use the life-stage of youth. The major assumption is that adding the time-perspective of the immediate presence to existing youth theories allows to explain not only why adolescents act towards the future but also tend to choose actions which are not aiming at becoming an adult. In addition, focusing on both biographical orientations broadens common explanations of why and how adolescents experience action conflicts.' (author's abstract)|},
