(Autorenreferat)... view less

'The article focuses on religious affiliations and beliefs in the western and the eastern parts of today's Germany. Data support predictions that bygone socialism in the new federal states has led to a remarkable diminution of traditional religious commitments and beliefs, whereas socialism is still regarded as a good idea by the majority of eastern respondents. Both parts of Germany show smaller differences in the frequencies of superstition. Finally, question which people still have faith in God is investigated by multivariate analysis.'
