Abstract	'Der Beitrag stellt den Sonderforschungsbereich 187 an der Ruhr-Universität Bochum kurz vor und geht dann auf die Untersuchungsanlage des NIFA-Panels (Neue Informationstechnologien und flexible Arbeitssysteme) ein. Im Rahmen des SFB 187 wird seit 1991 in jährlichen Intervallen eine repräsentative Panelstudie zur Erfassung technischer und arbeitsorganisatorischer Entwicklungen im deutschen Maschinenbau auf dem Wege einer standardisierten, schriftlichen Befragung durchgeführt. Im methodischen Teil beschäftigt sich der Beitrag insbesondere mit dem Untersuchungsdesign, der Entwicklung des Rücklaufs, der Zusammensetzung des Datenmaterials sowie Fragen der Abbildungsgenauigkeit. Zum Schluß werden einige ausgewählte Ergebnisse der beiden ersten Erhebungswellen 1991 und 1992 zur Nachfrage- und Umsatzentwicklung, Produktionsstruktur, Arbeitsorganisation sowie zum Innovations- und Kooperationsverhalten der Maschinenbaubetriebe vorgestellt. Der Datensatz soll im Zentralarchiv archiviert werden.' (Autorenreferat) 'This paper introduces the Sonderforschungsbereich 187 (Special Research Center 187) at the Ruhr-University of Bochum and gives an overview of the design of the NIFA-Panel (New Informational Technology and Flexible Worksystems). This panel-study has conducted a standardized survey in the German mechanical engineering industry every year since 1991 to study the development of technology and work organization. The first part of the paper deals with research design, composition of data and questions of representativity. It also presents selected results from the 1991 and 1992 survey.
