Abstract 'Ausgehend von der Annahme, daß soziale Differenzierung sich in räumlicher Differenzierung niederschlägt, bietet eine Beschreibung der Struktur des näheren Wohnumfeldes die Möglichkeit, das Wohnquartier als Handlungsraum und Sozialisationsinstanz zur Interpretation von Umfragedaten zu nutzen. Das vorliegende Instrumentarium erlaubt es, das Wohnquartier unabhängig von Zensusdaten über Merkmale, die in der eigenen Umfrage erhoben werden, zu charakterisieren.' (Autorenreferat)

'The general hypothesis is that social differentiation causes spatial differentiation. Starting with this hypothesis, the residential areas of respondents can be classified with respect to characteristics describing type of residential area. The index shown here is able to characterize residential areas by survey data.' (author's abstract)|
