'A mail survey on national identity was based on a personal interview of Social Science Survey including a screening for willingness of participation at the end. This strategy provided information about demographic characteristics as well as (in a second part of the study) topic related attitudes of respondents and non-respondents. The non-response analysis was based on this information. At first glance the respondents reflected a very low sample completion revealing itself, however, much beter if one takes into account the cleaned sample as calculation basis. With respect to demographic characteristics the realised sample is not distorted, except with respect to education: the higher educated being more willing to repond. However, it is obvious from the attitudinal questions, that there is a topic-specific self-selection process, resulting in actual responding of those persons who are involved in the topic.'
