(Autorenreferat)... view less

'Mail surveys have had lower response rates in East Germany than in West Germany. On the basis of a mail survey in Dresden, consisting of a random sample from the city registry of people 18 years and older, it is shown that this needs not be the case if the recommendations of Don Dillman are followed and up to three reminders are sent. In the Dresden study 60% of the eligible respondents under these circumstances took part in the survey. Whether the letter was stamped or not did not affect the response rate. Reminders drew above all the politically disinterested and the little motivated into the sample.' (author's abstract)|... view less
