Methods for qualitative management research in the context of social systems thinking

Abstract

El propósito de este artículo es brindar al lector una introducción al número especial de FQS sobre "Métodos para la investigación cualitativa de la gestión en el contexto del pensamiento de sistemas sociales". Durante la revisión de artículos para este volumen especial, los editores reconocieron tres líneas temáticas que parecen ser de particular importancia para la investigación cualitativa de la gestión en el contexto del pensamiento de sistemas sociales. El primero de estos temas se relaciona con la observación, esto es, lo observable en investigación de la gestión, el segundo, métodos y diseño de estudios para la aplicación en investigación empírica utilizando la teoría de sistemas, y el tercero, las implicaciones de esos estudios sobre aquello que es estudiado, por ejemplo, la gestión en las organizaciones. Las posiciones de los autores en este Volumen Especial, respecto de estos tres aspectos, se abordan y discuten en este artículo.

Dieser Artikel soll die Leser/innen in die FQS-Schwerpunktausgabe "Qualitative Methoden zur Managementforschung in sozialen Systemen" einführen. Die Beiträge in dieser Schwerpunktausgabe beschäftigen sich vor allem mit drei Themen, welche offensichtlich eine besondere Wichtigkeit für qualitative Managementforschung mit systemischer Perspektive haben: Das erste Thema diskutiert die Beobachtung bzw. das Beobachtbare in der Managementforschung, das zweite betrachtet die Verwendung von Methoden und das Studiendesign, und das dritte Thema reflektiert die Wirkungen systemtheoretischer Managementstudien auf das, was untersucht wurde, d.h. auf das Management in Organisationen. Diese drei Themen und die Positionen, welche die Autor/innen der Artikel dieser Schwerpunktausgabe beziehen, werden in diesem Artikel eingehend reflektiert und diskutiert.

The purpose of this article is to provide the reader with an introduction into the FQS special issue "Methods for qualitative management research in the context of social systems thinking." While reviewing papers of this special issue, the editors recognized three thematic threads that seem to be of particular importance to qualitative management research from the stance of systems theory. The first of these themes relates to observation, i.e. the observable, in management research, the second to methods and the design of studies for application in empirical research using systems theory, and the third to the implications of those studies on what was studied, i.e. management in organizations. The positions of the authors of this Special Issue regarding these three themes are reflected and discussed in this article.
