"German and French development policy show numerous similarities concerning their goals and measures. However, both countries have not yet fulfilled the international commitment to spend 0,7 percent of their gross national product on development cooperation. In order to prepare for future challenges in development policy both countries try to realize an increased sectorial and geographic concentration of their development assistance as well as a structural reform of their development institutions. To consolidate Franco-German partnership in development cooperation both
countries need to define common approaches in development policy and to intensify the coordination of donor action. Only by deepening the cooperation with other EU member states and by developing
a common strategy of complementarity and division of labor, aid effectiveness can be improved in the long term." (author's abstract)... view less
