Abstract Buscando produzir subsídios para o debate na área da Educação em Saúde, este documento traz uma síntese histórica sobre a Escola de Frankfurt e apresenta o conteúdo da Teoria Crítica por ela produzida, resgatando elementos das obras de seus mais expressivos membros: Horkheimer, Adorno, Marcuse, Benjamin e Habermas.

Aiming to support a discussion on education in health, this paper brings a concise view on the history of the Frankfurt School and shows an introduction to the "Critical Theory" highlighting some aspects of the significant contribution to this school of thought by Horkheimer, Adorno, Marcuse, Benjamin and Habermas.
