Under the title 'Social History of Berlin from 1650 to 1799' a data bank was established at the Academy of Sciences of the GDR between 1981 and 1985. This data bank contains social-historical data of approximately 130.000 persons listed in the parish-registers of the Berlin parishes St. George and St. Nikolai as well as the Huguenot parish in the period between 1650 and 1799. According to the sources the data bank consists of fundamental files TAUFEN (baptisms), HEIRATEN (marriages), BEERDIGUNGEN (funerals), HUGHEIRATEN (Huguenot-marriages) and HUGBEERDIGUNGEN (Huguenot funerals) and of a secondary file JAHRE (ages) that describes the socio-economical basis for the book by Helga Schultz 'Berlin 1650 bis 1800 - Sozialgeschichte einer Residenz' (Social History of a Residence), Akademie-Verlag Berlin 1987. In the present article the authors describe the data model, the way in which the data bank was established, the documentation of the features and they outline the strategy for analyzing the data.'
