Grounded Theory Methodology (GTM) ist vor allem für weniger erfahrene Forscher wegen ihrer strukturellen Klarheit attraktiv. Erst später werden dem Forscher die Klippen und Komplexitäten dieses Verfahrens klar. Vor allem die Anforderungen an die Stichprobenziehung sind hoch - das sorgt für Schwierigkeiten bei Dissertationsprojekten und erfordert eine kreative Handhabung der GTM-Prinzipien. Die Autoren formulieren hier Vorschläge für die Forschungspraxis. Dazu gehört die Formulierung einer eindeutigen Forschungsfrage, die in der vorgegebenen Zeit und mit einem überschaubaren Datenaufwand beantwortet werden kann. Eine weitere wichtige Strategie ist der flexible Umgang mit theoretischem Wissen. Zudem sollte man ein Verfahren der Stichprobenziehung wählen, das die Forschungsfrage und den Zugang zum Feld berücksichtigt. 'Grounded Theory Methodology (GTM) instantly appeals, particularly to less experienced researchers, because of its clear structural characteristics. Once integrated into the research process, however, the authors discover the (probably unthought-of) depths of this theoretical framework and soon come to understand its demanding complexity. The sampling process is particularly exigent: a fact that causes difficulties when using it for PhD-theses etc., and that requires a creative handling of GTM's principles. In the present paper the authors will make suggestions for research practice in relation to how GTM can be best applied in thesis projects. One proposal concerns the development of a clearly defined research question that can be answered within the available research time, using an adequate amount of data. Another important strategy when handling GTM is the flexible use of theoretical knowledge; furthermore, the authors should choose a sampling strategy to gain (first) data which takes account of the research question and access to the research field. The intensive exchange of research results with other researchers can also provide the possibility of communicatively validating one's own findings.' (author's abstract)... view less
