"Some main attributes of Grounded Theory Methodology (GTM) are discussed, especially the concept of GTM research as a complex iterative process. This concept has, so far, been partly ignored in favour of a focus on GTM only as a set of analysis procedures. Discussing GTM also means acknowledging that different versions of GTM exist, as evidenced for example in the ongoing debate on 'emergence' vs. 'forcing'. The heatedness of this debate partly stems from the fact that the coding procedures used by Glaser on the one hand and Strauss (and Corbin) on the other hand are not incompatible as such, rather the differences mainly concern underlying epistemologies."
