Benefits of SSOAR

SSOAR's aim is to make publicly-funded research findings available to the public free of charge within a short space of time. As a freely-accessible repository, we wish to provide support to the various actors in the scholarly communication system:

  • For authors and their research institutions this means that their work achieves greater visibility and a wider readership.
  • Readers can directly access the literature they are seeking from their workplace.
  • Publishers and editors of print journals and anthologies who make literature available via SSOAR either retrospectively or in parallel with publication, increase its visibility and citation frequency. Manuscripts which are available in SSOAR always carry a bibliographic reference to the journal or anthology source, thereby providing greater access to new reader and author circles.

Value-added services

In addition to actually archiving documents and making them available to the public, SSOAR plans to offer additional value-added services. These will include:

  • a statistics service providing the current download data for each document;
  • automatic notification of new arrivals on the basis of standard or individually prepared profiles;
  • integrated search options for specially selected repositories and qualitative research resources;
  • preparation of bibliographies of authors and working groups;
  • BibTex/Endnote-Import and Export so that bibliographic data can be taken up directly by the authors' literature administration programmes or can be entered into them;
  • additional information on authors, journals, publishers (personal websites, portals);
  • print-on-demand-services, which, for example, save the editors of report series the work of archiving and providing hard copies.
